Brian ShellA proficient and zealous advocate, Brian has over thirty years of experience providing strategic legal advice that is innovative and practical. 

Skilled in litigation and dispute resolution, Brian's talent and creativity have provided our clients with unique solutions to their often complex problems without the time and cost many would expect. 

Brian has appeared before all levels of the Courts in Canada, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. 

For seventeen years, Brian served as the Canadian Counsel to the United Steelworkers of America, working out of the USW's National Office in Toronto and litigating labour relations matters throughout Canada. 

A native of Montreal, Brian is a graduate of Brandeis University in Massachusetts, U.S.A., and Balliol College at Oxford University, where he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics as a Canadian Rhodes Scholar (Quebec). Upon completion of his graduate degree, he taught sociology of development in Central Java, Indonesia. Brian studies law at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Brian has been called to the Bar of Ontario and to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador.   

Brian is a co-author of a text on changes in workers compensation law in Ontario and the author of numerous articles and monographs. He speaks on a variety of topics involving developments in labour and human rights law to university classes, lawyers' organizations, employee organizations and trade union audiences. 

Brian also designs and delivers educational seminars on topics of interest to union activists, professionals and employee groups. 

Brian speaks French, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesia/Malayu. He lives in Toronto with his life partner, Barbara Ostroff. Brian has three adult children.
